Sessions with Mary are a gentle way to become curious about your system through sensation, and an amazingly effective way to discharge trauma and reorganize the nervous system toward healing.
Mary Ware has been fascinated with the nervous system most of her life. This fascination started as a vague understanding that something was going on inside her body that was keeping her in a state of discomfort on many levels. She also knew, from experience and what she was told by the medical community, that there is only so much that talk therapies and physical therapies could do to help her find relief naturally. She searched and studied to understand her system - how it is affected by trauma and how it can be healed. She found there was more to the story. There was a way to help the nervous system to naturally complete what was continuously cycling in her body that she experienced as anxiety, depression and chronic pain by completeing truncated and frozen defense responses.
Mary integrates her experience with different therapies for a unique and effective session. She teaches you how to track your own bodily sensations, which in turn opens the neural pathways that allow safe discharge of trauma from the nervous system. She teaches you to be present in your body and to develop skills to explore, navigate and appreciate your own system. You do not have to have a major problem to benefit from this work. You can simply enjoy the experience of your energy system flowing as you access your health and internal intelligence.
Mary either functions as a Psychotherapist or a Bodyworker as defined below.
Somatic Psychotherapy: Combines traditional psychotherapy and psychological assessment with Somatic Experiencing and Biodynamic Craniosacral theory. This is a body-centered approach to psychotherapy, typically performed while seated; at times movement and physical supports are utilized. Nervous system regulation is the focus of the session while addressing concerns and symptoms as nervous system regulation is reinstated.
Trauma Informed Touch Work: Performed, fully clothed and often on a massage table. I employ Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and Somatic Experiencing Touch; I do not do any soft tissue work. I provide trauma informed nervous system regulation and trauma resolution work with the two modalities previously stated.
